Softball's Miles Named Academic All-District

May 3, 2012

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State sophomore Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) has been named to the 2012 Capital One Softball Academic All-District Team, the College Sports Information of America (CoSIDA) announced today. Miles earned first-team District 8 honors.

The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada and recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where fist-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

Miles, a journalism major with a 3.60 GPA, is the only player from the Mountain West on any All-District team. Miles already has eight single-season school records and needs one more home run to break another. She is batting .448 with 15 home runs, 40 RBIs, 52 runs, 18 doubles and 26 walks, while owning a .910 slugging percentage and a .529 on-base percentage.

Miles is the first Aztec to earn Academic All-District honors since Brittany Knudsen was a second-team pick in 2010 and the second since 2006, when Celena Velasquez was a first-team honoree.

SDSU plays host to Boise State this weekend in a three-game series, beginning Friday at 6 p.m. PT.
