Bailey Micetich Named MW Co-Pitcher of the Week

May 8, 2012

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State senior Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) has been named the Mountain West Co-Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. It is the second straight weekly honor for the right-hander, the third in four weeks and the seventh of her career. An Aztec has now won the pitcher-of-the-week award four consecutive weeks.

Micetich went 2-1 last week with a 3.59 ERA over 13 2/3 innings. She struck out 22 batters against just two walks, while holding her opponents to a .259 average.

On Wednesday at Cal State Fullerton, Micetich tossed 2 1/3 innings of perfect relief and struck out four to get the win in SDSU's 12-4, six-inning victory. After taking a loss to Boise State on Friday, Micetich bounced back on Sunday by tying her career high with 13 strikeouts as San Diego State defeated the Broncos, 7-1, to recapture first place in MW play. She allowed just one run on three hits (all singles and all in the top of the second inning) and retired the final 16 batters she faced, including 12 via strikeout.

On the season, Micetich is 14-7 with a save and a 2.42 ERA over 141 2/3 innings. She has 161 strikeouts against just 24 walks, and has kept the opposition to a .233 batting average. Micetich ranks 18th in the nation in fewest walks allowed per seven innings (1.19) and 44th in strikeouts per seven innings (7.96). Among the league leaders, Micetich is tied for first in solo shutouts (4), second in strikeouts and opposing batting average, third in ERA and wins, fourth in innings pitched and tied for fifth in saves.

Micetich shared the award with Boise State's Aubray Zell.

The Aztecs (28-21, 7-2 Mountain West) have to win two of the three games this weekend at UNLV to claim their fifth MW title and an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. The first game is set for 6 p.m. PT Thursday.
