Aztecs Travel to UNLV in Need of Two Victories for Mountain West Title
In need of two victories for a fifth Mountain West title and an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament, the San Diego State softball team travels to Las Vegas to take on UNLV in a three-game series. The Aztecs (28-21, 7-2 MW) and Rebels (21-25, 2-7 MW) will meet at 6 p.m. PT Thursday, 5 p.m. PT Friday and 1 p.m. PT Saturday with the final game being broadcast live nationally on CBS Sports.

Two or three wins this weekend would give SDSU its first MW title since 2008. One San Diego State win AND anything but a Colorado State sweep at home against New Mexico would create a tie with Boise State, but the Broncos (34-17, 8-4 MW) would own the tiebreaker after taking two of three contests against the Aztecs last weekend in San Diego. One Aztec win AND a Ram (26-22, 5-4 MW) sweep against the Lobos (27-22, 2-7 MW) would create a three-way tie for first with SDSU owning the tiebreaker over both teams, thus earning the automatic bid. No San Diego State win and either BSU (if CSU loses a game vs. UNM) or Colorado State (with a sweep over New Mexico, would own tiebreaker with Boise State) would win the auto bid. Got that? Good.

Sophomore Hayley Miles continues to lead the Aztec offense with nine single-season school records and just two walks from another. She is currently ranked among the national leaders in seven categories, including top-20 marks in doubles per game (3rd, 0.39), slugging percentage (7th, .891), runs per game (11th, 1.12), batting average (T-15th, .436) and home runs per game (T-19th, 0.33). Senior Justeen Maeva (.333, 6 HR, 38 RBI), redshirt sophomore Patrice Jackson (.321, 9 HR, 33 RBI), sophomore Lorena Klopp (.314, 12 HR, 33 RBI), freshman Kayla Jordan (.311, 24 R, 5 3B) and junior Kristin May (.302, 2 HR, 11 RBI) are also above .300 for SDSU, which is hitting .292 as a team. Redshirt junior Rebecca Arbino (12-9, 2.00 ERA, 143.1 IP) and senior Bailey Micetich (14-7, 2.42 ERA, 141.2 IP) lead a pitching staff that has combined for nine shutouts and a 2.48 ERA.
