Volleyball Signs One More

May 9, 2013

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV volleyball program has signed Julia Topor to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Scarlet & Gray beginning in the fall of 2013, announced head coach Cindy Fredrick. Topor, a native of New Jersey, will join a trio of soon-to-be Rebels - Megan Dempsey, Sadie Stutzman and Alyssa Wing - as members of the incoming freshmen class following their high school graduations this spring.

"We are very excited to have Julia join the Rebel volleyball team," said Fredrick. "We are fortunate to sing someone at this late date with Julia's talent. She is a six rotation player with excellent front and back row skills. At 6-2, she has the ability to terminate on the left side and put up a very effective block."

Topor will graduate from Bogota High School after she lettered four years in volleyball and three more in track & field. She helped lead the Buccaneer volleyball team to three straight state and North Jersey Interscholastic Conference championships from 2010 through '12. In addition to the state and conference titles, the Bucs also claimed the county title in 2012. She earned All-State honors all three years with a first-team selection in 2012, while being named to the second team in '11 and third team in `10. She was tabbed All-NJIC First Team in both 2011 and '12, second team in '10 and honorable mention in `09. She was all-county first team in 2012 and second team a year before that. In track & field, she ran the 100m and 200m, while participating in the all three jumping disciplines (long, high and triple).

She plays club volleyball with USANY, a volleyball team that plays not only a national schedule, but an international one, as well. The club has competed in Canada, the Dominican Republic and the JVA World Championships. It has also played in USA and AAU junior tournaments across the nation.

The Rebels are coming off an 18-11 season and a third-place finish in the Mountain West after a 10-6 mark in league play in 2012. The team returns eight letterwinners from last year's squad including Madeline Westman, a two-time all-conference performer.
