May 15, 2012

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels, whose season came to a conclusion this past Saturday with a 9-7 victory over the San Diego State Aztecs, had Paige Emerson and Stefany Valentino named to the 2012 Mountain West All-Conference Team today as selected by the league's five head coaches. This is the second time that Emerson has been tabbed to the 20-person squad, while it is the first for Valentino.

The outfield duo led the Rebels in nearly all offensive categories over the 12-game conference season.

Emerson topped out with a team-best 42 at-bats, 15 runs, 16 hits, three doubles, two triples, 26 total bases and a .619 slugging percentage. She owned a .318 batting average, while knocking in five RBI and hitting one home run. She notched at least one hit in all but one conference contest and had five-multiple hit affairs. She ended the year with an eight-game hitting streak that saw her hit .444 (12-for-27) with 10 runs and three RBI.

Valentino, who had 11 RBI and scored eight runs, led the Rebels in batting average (.395), walks (eight) and on-base percentage (.500). She reached base safely in all 12 contests and recorded at least one hit in all but two of those games. She had five multiple-hit games in conference play, all of which came in her seven-game hitting streak to conclude the season. During that seven-game stretch, she hit .522 (12-for-23) with eight RBI and eight runs scored. She was named the MW's Player of the Week on May 8, after she led UNLV to a 2-1 series win against the New Mexico Lobos. She went 6-for-10 (.600) at the plate with five singles and a grand slam that equated to a .900 slugging percentage. She knocked in six RBI and scored four runs.
