Mountain West Lands Five on NFCA All-West Region Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Five Mountain West softball student-athletes have been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's All-West Region team, the organization announced today. Conference champion and NCAA Tournament-bound San Diego State placed a combined school-record four individuals on the team. Junior Patrice Jackson and Lorena Bauer earned first-team accolades and seniors Rebecca Arbino and Kamerin May collected second-team honors. UNLV was represented by junior Stefany Valentino.

The Aztecs' four All-West Region selections matched UCLA for second-most in the region, trailing only Arizona State's six picks. SDSU and ASU could meet as early as Saturday in the NCAA Tempe Regional.

Bauer, a San Diego native, is batting .421 with 13 home runs and 49 RBIs heading into postseason play. The junior designated/utility player is tied for 10th in the country in doubles (18) and 22nd in slugging percentage (.805).

Jackson, a junior outfielder, was named the MW Player of the Year on Tuesday. This season, the Kansas City, Mo., product is hitting .368 with 16 home runs, 41 RBIs and 35 runs scored. Her 16 homers are the second-most in a season in program history.

Arbino has compiled a 20-12 record with a 1.96 ERA over 207.1 innings in 2013. The senior right-hander from Clovis, Calif., has recorded 196 strikeouts against 33 walks, while limiting the opposition to a .235 average. Arbino, the MW Pitcher of the Year, is ranked 23rd in the country with just 1.11 walks per seven innings.

May, a senior from Corona, Calif., is hitting .318 with three home runs, 25 RBIs and 15 runs scored this year. She has set career single-season highs in batting average and RBIs while starting all 53 games at first base.

Hailing from Oak Park, Calif., Valentino finished the 2013 campaign with a team-high .405 batting average. The junior outfielder also led the Rebels with 34 runs scored, 64 hits and a .538 slugging percentage.
