Softball's Hayley Miles Named 2nd-Team All-Region

San Diego State sophomore Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) has been named a 2012 second-team National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-West Region selection, the NFCA announced Thursday. The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region and all honorees will now be eligible for selection to one of three 2012 NFCA Division I All-American teams.
It is the ninth award of the season for Miles. The shortstop has been honored as a second-team all-region selection, a first-team Capital One Academic District 8 pick, a Mountain West Co-Player of the Year, an all-MW pick, a national player-of-the-week winner by two organizations and a three-time MW Player-of-the-Week recipient.
Heading into the NCAA tournament, Miles is hitting .446 with 20 home runs, 20 doubles, 62 runs and 49 RBIs, all from the leadoff spot. She is ranked among the top 10 in the country in doubles per game (third, 0.38), slugging percentage (fifth, .952), runs per game (fifth, 1.19), batting average (ninth, .446) and home runs per game (ninth, 0.38), and is also 18th in on-base percentage (.530), tied for 41st in RBIs per game (0.94) and tied for 89th in walks per game (0.60).
Miles has set 11 program single-season records in 2012, including batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS (OB%+SLG%) percentage (1.482), runs, extra-base hits (42), doubles, home runs, RBIs, total bases (158) and walks (31).
In MW games, Miles led the league in runs (21), home runs (10), RBIs (21), walks (13) and slugging percentage (1.359), while batting a team-high .487 (19-for-39). She also ranked second in on-base percentage (.623) and tied for third in hits (19).
The Aztecs earned the Mountain West's automatic bid into the NCAA tournament after going 9-3 in league player for their fifth regular season title. SDSU (30-22) plays No. 20/20 Florida State (46-14) at 3 p.m. PT Friday in Los Angeles, Calif. The No. 12 overall seed and No. 15/14 UCLA (36-18) and Hofstra (38-13) will follow at 5:30 p.m. PT in the double-elimination regional.
