Spring Schedule Released

Oct. 15, 2012

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The 2013 UNLV softball schedule was released on Monday by the athletics department. The Rebels have 56 regular season games on the docket with 35 contests coming in a span of seven tournaments, four of which will be hosted by UNLV in Las Vegas. Overall, the Scarlet & Gray will play 38 non-conference games compared to 18 against Mountain West foes.

The schedule is loaded with 20 games against 14 squads that competed in the 2012 NCAA Tournament, including two - Louisiana State and Oregon - that advanced to play in the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City. Ten of those bouts will occur at home, while seven will take place at neutral sites and three more - at San Diego State - will be true road games. Besides the three aforementioned teams, the Rebels will square off with Texas Tech, Tulsa, DePaul and UCF (Central Florida) twice apiece, while also facing BYU, Long Beach State, Louisville, Massachusetts, North Dakota State, Portland State and UCLA once.

The Rebels will be led by first-year head coach Lisa Dodd, who spent the last five years as an assistant coach following a standout career at UCLA. Dodd, along with assistant coaches Caitlin Lever and Jessica Serio, will field a team comprised of 13 returning letters - seven of which started in 2012 - and six newcomers.

UNLV opens the 2013 campaign with 17 of its first 22 games at home with six contests occurring in both the Sportco Kick-Off Classic (Feb. 8-10) and the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic (Feb. 14-17). Five more games will be played in the Eller Media Stadium Classic (March 1-3) following the team's first road trip to Cathedral City, Calif., for the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic (Feb. 21-24).

After playing three of the first four weekends at home, the Rebels travel back to the Golden State for tournaments hosted by Long Beach State (March 8-10) and San Diego State (March 15-17). They will play five at each site.

The team returns to Las Vegas to host a three-day affair at EMS on March 22-24. UNLV will only play the first two days; twice against Tulsa and once against Texas Tech. Boise State is also competing, but will not face the Rebels.

Conference play begins with a three-game set at Colorado State on March 28 when UNLV travels to Fort Collins. Prior to UNLV and CSU's Thursday through Saturday set, the former will play Northern Colorado in Greeley on March 27.

UNLV will then return home for consecutive weekends to host series against Fresno State (April 6-7) and New Mexico (April 12-14) prior to a quick jump out of conference at Cal State Fullerton (doubleheader) on April 20.

The team then concludes the regular season with six of its final nine contests on the road. They begin the leg with a trip to Reno, Nev., to play UNR on April 26-28 before its final home stand on May 3-5 vs. Boise State. The regular season comes to a close on May 9-11 in San Diego against San Diego State.
