Softball to Play Host to NPF All-Stars on Friday

Oct. 22, 2012

The San Diego State softball team will wrap up its fall exhibition season Friday night (Oct. 26) with a game against the National Pro Fastpitch All-Stars at 7 p.m. PT at SDSU Softball Stadium.

It will be the third consecutive year that the Aztecs will host Team NPF, which is comprised of athletes from the four NPF teams - Akron Racers, Carolina Diamonds, Chicago Bandits and USSSA Florida Pride - and includes an accomplished list of competitors. Prior to the current NPF Back to School Tour, the team of professional all-stars posted a 41-1 record with its lone loss coming at Oklahoma on last year's fall tour. The Sooners ended up finishing runner-up at the 2012 Women's College World Series.

Highlighting the NPF All-Stars team is 2004 U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist and 2008 Silver Medalist Kelly Kretschman. Kretschman was a four-time NFCA All-American at Florida and a member of three NPF championship teams.

Ashley Charters (2010 U.S. World Cup/Washington), Andrea Duran (2008 U.S. Olympian/UCLA), Caitlin Lowe (2008 U.S. Olympian/Arizona), Jenn Salling (2008 Canadian Olympian/Washington) and Nikia Williams (2010 U.S. Women's Futures National Team/Washington) have also recently represented their country on the international stage.

Other athletes on the NPF roster for Friday's game include Kelsey Bruder (2011 All-American at Florida), Kaylyn Castillo (all-Pac-12 selection at Arizona State), GiOnna DiSalvatore (two-time All-American at UCLA), Jamee Juarez (four-time Big Ten all-conference pick at Ohio State), Charlotte Morgan (two-time SEC Player of the Year at Alabama), Angeline Quiocho (three-time all-MW performer at Brigham Young) and Kristina Thorson (2011 all-NPF selection/California).

Tickets for the game are available in advance only for $10 and $5 for groups of 15 or more.

To purchase tickets to the San Diego State-NPF All-Stars game on Oct. 26, visit, or call (619) 283-7378, or visit the Aztec Ticket Office at Qualcomm Stadium's Window "E." The ticket office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Tickets must be purchased in advance as there is no will call for the event.

SDSU is coming off a 32-24 season in 2012, advancing to the NCAA tournament for a school-record fifth consecutive year and capturing its fifth Mountain West title. San Diego State went 2-2 in the NCAA Los Angeles Regional before being eliminated in the regional championship game for the second straight year, falling just short of the NCAA Super Regionals (equivalent to the Sweet 16). The Aztecs finished with single-season program records in slugging percentage (.466), doubles (79), home runs (58), RBIs (237) and total bases (692), and received votes in both national polls.
