BOZEMAN, MONT.—The first day of the spring season began on the road for the Lobos as they faced Utah State University in the first of three matches this weekend. The Lobos came out ahead after a close match finishing with a score of 4-3.
The Lobos not willing to admit defeat so easily came back with a bite in singles to ultimately win the match.
Michaela Bezdickova played the first position defeating Jaci West with a score of 6-3, 6-1.
Susanna Kuuttila, a freshman from Albuquerque, started at the number two position where she won against Kristina Voytsekhovich with a score of 6-2, 6-1.

Maria Sablina won four games per set but was not enough for a Lobo victory against Romina Nedakovic with a score of 6-4, 6-4 at the fourth position.
Nikolina Grbac came back from behind at 4-1 to win in a close first set, and found her second set not nearly as difficult against Julie Tukuafu winning in the fifth slot with a score of 7-5, 6-3.
Michaela Oldani playing at the sixth position had two very difficult sets against Brianna Rowland but overcame the challenge winning both sets 7-6, 7-6.
The Lobos won the match but it came down to the wire with the Lobos counting on every match to claim victory over Utah State.
“We started slow in the doubles but fought hard to get this very gritty win. We did not play to the capacity we are capable but we showed heart and determination to get this team win,” Head Coach Roy Canada said. “It was definitely a whole team effort.”
