LINCOLN, NEB. – The Colorado State women’s tennis team fell to No. 15 Nebraska, 7-0, Sunday, in Lincoln, Neb.

“This was a tough match, but I thought we played pretty well considering Nebraska is the No. 15 team in the nation,” said head coach Jon Messick. “It was especially tough that we didn’t have three of our top players (Kaley Schultz, Kendall Heitzner and Jennifer Weissmann) going out there either, but having said that I think there are some positives to take away today.”

In doubles, the Rams dropped both the No. 1 and No. 2 matches, giving Nebraska the doubles point. In No. 3 doubles the tandem of Abby Stevens and Mollie Cooper defeated Nebraska’s Lauren Wagner and Maike Zeppernick 8-7, (7-4).

In singles Nebraska captured three consecutive victories at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 2, to seal the match, then went on to win the rest of the singles matches to secure the shutout.

Rams freshman Maddie Buxton, in her first singles match of the 2013 spring season, was narrowly edged by the Huskers’ Lauren Wagner 2-6, 6-3, with a 12-10 tie-breaker to gave Wagner the point.

The Rams will look to get back on track when they take on Montana on Sunday, Feb. 24, at 9 a.m., at Miramont Lifestyle Fitness.
