ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - At the end of an action-packed three match weekend, the Lobos finish their third match on a good note as they edged the UTEP Miners in a close showdown 4-3. The Lobos will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Denver, Colo. to play against Denver on February 22, and then to Salt Lake City, Utah to face Utah on February 24, 2013.

The Lobos started the day off a little shaky in doubles.

The first off the court was the duo of Nikolina Grbac and Michaela Oldani as they fell to Gabi Vazquez and Marie LeBlond with a score of 4-3.

At number one doubles, the partnership of Laura Richardson and Michaela Bezdickova came out on top as they defeated the duo of Martina Trierweiler and Rebeca Calvillo 8-5. UNM and UTEP remained tied as all the pressure went on to number three doubles to decide the doubles point.

The duo of Katie Wookey and Kristin Eggleston faced off against Anastasiya Sylenko and Jaime-Leigh Micahu. It was a battle the entire way as both teams fought relentlessly for each game but UTEP got the better of them to win the match 8-5.

The Lobos lost the doubles point but as shown this entire weekend, the Lobos take their competition to singles after they have already worn down their opponents in doubles. This match was no exception.

At court number one, Bezdickova came and conquered as she dropped only one game to Trierweiler to win the match 6-1, 6-0. With this win, the Lobos tied the match to 1-1.

At number six singles, Susanna Kuuttila blasted past her opponent Sylenko to win the match 6-1, 6-3. The Lobos took the lead 2-1.

At the fourth court, UTEP made their move when Vazquez defeated Wookey 6-1, 6-4. The match was again all tied up, this time at 2-2.

"Overall, this weekend was really good," Wookey said. "I thought we got better every single day and that was really important. We just focused on doing our best and each day we got better. We focused on having really high energy and intensity. It was really good."

At number five singles, Richardson dropped only three games to Michau to win the match 6-2, 6-1. The Lobos again took the lead with the score being 3-2. All that was need was one more win to clinch the match.

At the number two position, Eggleston had a tough first set against Calvillo falling in the tiebreak 7-6 (7-4). It was here that Calvillo used her momentum to force another tie in the dual match as she won the match 7-6, 6-0.

This leaves only court number three to decide the match. It was here that Grbac took on LeBlond.

Grbac took an early lead in the first set and closed it off winning 6-1. LeBlond was not out of the match just yet. She slowly started to gain up on her opponent sneaking into a second set victory 7-5.

With the match still undecided, the two played a full third set to decide which team will go home with a `W'.

Grbac and LeBlond were tied up at 2-2 in the third set. Both teams were cheering for their respective players but the Lobos were just a little louder. Grbac took four straight games with their support and clinched the match for the Lobos winning with a final score of 6-1, 5-7, 6-2.

Third set, I went into it thinking now or never," Grbac said. "Now is the time to loosen up and quit being tight. I was going for my shots and playing my game. I came back into the game and I won 6-2. My teammates were supporting me. It was huge."

The Lobos are now 2-2 overall and have two more matches coming up this weekend against Denver and Utah.

For us to come out today after two heartbreaking losses and play another 4-3 match and come out on top, I think is huge for this group," Jasper said. "What was exciting was that we got better match to match. On our end, on the coaching front, we have to do a better job preparing them for doubles. We are still not coming out the way that we are capable of. That will be a big focus for this next week and we will try to get our doubles a little bit better."

The Lobos will travel to Denver, Colo. to play against Denver on February 22, and then to Salt Lake City, Utah to face Utah on February 24, 2013.
