Lobos fall 6-1 to #75 Denver; Face #41 Utah on Sunday

DENVER, COLO. - The Lobos went into the match with the right mindset and came out with positive energy after a tough loss to #75 Denver 6-1 at the Denver Country Club. The Lobos are now 2-3 overall as they head into the match against #41 Utah on February 24, 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The match got underway with doubles first.
At the number one spot, Michaela Bezdickova and Laura Richardson took on the duo of Sophia Bergner and Steffi Rath. The Lobos managed to fight for five games but Bergner and Rath stepped up their game to win the match 8-5.
At number three doubles, Sarah Mahboob Khan and Michaela Oldani faced Caroline Schnell and Charlotte Derbyshire. Khan and Oldani also went to a tiebreak set but finished strong winning in a tiebreak set of 8-7 (7-4).
The Lobos were down in the doubles point. #75 Denver had the momentum on their side and they were not about to let that advantage go to waste.
At number one singles, Bezdickova faced Bergner to win the first set in a tiebreak 7-6 (7-4). Bergner answered back by taking the second set 6-3. It came down to the third set tiebreak. Bezdickova won by the necessary two points to claim her fifth consecutive singles win at number one singles in dual match contests with a score of 7-6(4), 3-6, 10-8.
At number two singles, Grbac competed against Schnell to fall with a close first set 6-4, 6-1.
At the number three spot, Eggleston fell to Isberg with a score of 6-1, 6-1.
Khan fell in the first set to van den Eerenbeemt at the number four position 6-3. She came back to take the second set 6-4. It was a close third set tiebreak but Denver came out on top with the necessary two points to win the match with a final score of 6-3, 4-6, 10-8.
At the number five spot, Katie Wookey fell to Kathryn Hughes with a close first set 7-6(7-4), 6-0.
At number six singles, Laura Richardson battled against Rath. Rath got the better of her taking the first set 6-1. Richardson was not out of the game yet taking it a second set tiebreak. Rath kicked up her game to win the match with a final score of 6-1, 7-6 (7-4).
The Lobos are now 2-3 overall as they head into the match against #41 Utah on February 24, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. MT in Salt Lake City, Utah.
"We came into the match with the right mind set and competed hard today," Head Coach Erica Perkins Jasper said. "I think the credit goes to Denver. They came after us and played the big points with a bit more discipline and hunger. As a coaching staff, we are really pleased with the energy and fire of this team and their willingness to work day in and day out."
