FORT COLLINS COLO. – The Colorado State women’s tennis team fell to Montana Sunday (5-2) in a home match played at Miramont Lifestyle Fitness.

“We played tough, we played hard, and I was mainly impressed with our freshmen,” said head coach Jon Messick. “Abby (Stevens) has just one speed and that’s all out, she beat an excellent opponent. That’s just the way she is playing right now and we need to get the whole team playing like that.”

In doubles, the Rams dropped both the No. 1 and No. 3 matches, giving Montana the doubles point. In No. 2 doubles the tandem of Abby Stevens and Mollie Cooper defeated Montana’s Sasha Carter and Maddy Murray 8-6.

In singles Stevens dominated her opponent Sasha Carter 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 2 position to even the score for the CSU. The Rams then dropped the No. 1 and No. 4 matches to give Montana an advantage. Freshman Kendall Heitzner captured a back-and-forth victory over Montana’s Haley Driver 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 at the No. 3 position to give the Rams a lift.
