Wind Not a Factor for the Lobos Defeating UTEP 5-2

EL PASO, TEXAS -The Lobos did well last Saturday taking down Western New Mexico at home and raising almost 1,300 dollars for their first annual THINK PINK Fundraiser. That success did not seem to stop the Lobos as they kept the momentum going for them as they defeated UTEP with a score of 5-2 on the road.
The Lobos quickly took the doubles point and did not even look back.
The Lobos kept the pace in their favor moving onto singles.
At number one singles, Michaela Bezdickova gave up only two games against Marina Trierweiler defeating her with a score of 6-2, 6-0.
Susanna Kuuttila had a difficult three set match at number two singles against Rebeca Calvillo. She ultimately kept her head high and finished strong winning with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Maria Sablina played at the number three spot against Gabi Vazquez but could not quite pull out a three set victory falling with a score of 6-7, 6-1, 6-3.
At the number four position, Kristin Eggleston played against Anastasiya Sylenko. She dropped only three games to win with a score of 6-2, 6-1.
Katie Wookey played a tough match against Dariya Abdrakhmanova at the number four spot. She came out on top in the third set winning with a score of 6-3, 4-6, 10-5. Katie Wookey is undefeated in all three dual matches she has played in so far.
At number six singles, Laura Richardson fell to Marie LeBlond with a score of 6-0, 6-1.
The Lobos fought hard and came out on top against a tough competitor.
"We had to face some tough conditions with the wind," Head Coach Roy Canada said. "But we stayed mentally strong and came out with a solid performance."
This is one of three matches that the Lobos have to play this weekend. The next match the Lobos will play will be against New Mexico State in Las Cruces, N.M. on March 2, 2012.
