Lobos Down Bobcats 4-3

March 2, 2013

BOZEMAN, MONT. – The Lobos had a significant turnaround as they came out on top playing at the home of Montana State defeating them after a tough loss yesterday to Montana. The Lobos edged past the Bobcats with a score of 4-3 with Susanna Kuuttila with the clinch win at number six singles.

The Lobos started the match off on the right track as they won all of their doubles matches.

At number one doubles, Michaela Bezickova and Laura Richardson paired up together to win 8-2 against Charlotta Hjalmarrson and Paulina Lopez Trevino.

At number two doubles, Nikolina Grbac and Kristin Eggleston teamed up to face Iva Parapunova and Ellie Crum. The two battled it out but the Lobos came out on top to win the match 8-5.

At the number three spot, the team of Sarah Mahboob Khan and Michaela Oldani clinched the doubles point for UNM with a score of 8-5 against the duo of Liana Bates and Wena Tsan.

After UNM clinched the doubles point, it was now onto singles. The Bobcats were not about to simply hand them a win so it was up to the Lobos to tip the scale in their favor.

At number one singles, Michaela Bezdickova was the first off the court after she dropped only three games to Hjalmarrson to win the match 6-1, 6-2.

At the number three spot, Lopez Trevino put Montana State up on the board after she defeated Eggleston with a close first set 7-5, 6-3. UNM still had the lead with the score now 2-1.

At the number four position, Khan defeated her opponent Crum with a close first set of 7-5. She had no problem in the second set clinching the singles win with a final score of 7-5, 6-3. UNM was now up 3-1.

The fourth to finish, Grbac had a hard fought second set but it was not enough as Parapunova came out on top to win 6-2, 7-5. The dual match was now at 3-2.

UNM clinched the match with the win at number six singles as sophomore Susanna Kuuttila defeated Bates with a score of 6-2, 6-3.

The last to finish was at number five singles as Richardson fought with two close sets against Tsan. Tsan came out on top winning the match 6-4, 7-5.

“Today's win was a total team effort, and I couldn't be more proud of how we came out and competed,” Head Coach Erica Perkins Jasper said. “Our effort and execution in doubles was probably the best it has been all season and that point ended up being huge for us.  In singles, every player did something a little better than they did yesterday and that was exciting.”

The Lobos are now 1-1 for this weekend and improve to 3-5 overall. The Lobos will face Idaho tomorrow at 9 a.m. MT.
