Lobos End Weekend 1-1 on the Road

LAS CRUCES, N.M.—After a canceled match against New Mexico State, the Lobos faced the University of Idaho falling to the Vandals with a score of 5-2.

At number one doubles, Alyssa Caffey and Maria Sablina were defeated by Sanz/Lozano with a score of 8-4.

Susanna Kuuttila and Michaela Bezdickova played against Vickers/Knox at the number two spot, falling with a score of 8-4.

At the number three position, Michaela Oldani and Nikolina Grbac were defeated by Flores/Lozano with a score of 8-2.

It was now onto singles.

At the number one spot, Michaela Bezdickova fell to Victoria Lozano with a score of 6-4, 6-2.

Susanna Kuuttila was defeated by Almudena Sanz at the two position with a score of 6-2, 6-3.

At number three singles, Maria Sablina turned the tables around for the Lobos defeating Molly Knox in a hard fought three set match. The final score was UNM 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Kristin Eggleston had a close first set but it was not enough against Sophie Vickers at the number four spot. The final score was Idaho 7-5, 6-3.

At number five singles, Katie Wookey defeated Alejandra Lozano with a score of 6-1, 6-3. She is now 4-0 in dual match singles. She is 2-0 at the number five position.

At number six singles, Nikolina Grbac fought long and hard against Beatriz Flores falling in a close three set match. Flores got the upper-hand defeating Nikolina Grbac with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

“Idaho is a very talented team. We saw a different style of play from several of their plyaers and they just played better than we did,” Head Coach Roy Canada said. “It was a hard fought fight and we did give up some leads that would have made a big difference if we had converted those opportunities.”

The Lobos will stay on the road taking on Northern Arizona and Akron in Flagstaff, Arizona on March 10-11, 2012 with both matches being played at 11 a.m.
