UNM Bucked By Broncos 6-1 in Conference Matchup
March 9, 2013
BOISE, IDAHO – The Lobos fell in a tough battle in conference play to Boise State 6-1. One Lobo did shine through though as she defeated Marlena Pietzuch at number one singles garnering the only point for UNM.
At number one doubles, the duo of Michaela Bezdickova and Laura Richardson faced #40 in the nation Manuela Pietzuch and her sister Marlena Pietzuch. The two fell but not without winning five games off the nationally ranked duo. Boise State won the match 8-5.
Boise State took the doubles point and did not let go of that momentum, save for the number one singles match.
At number one singles, Bezdickova defeated Marlena Pietzuch in the first set 6-1. Pietzuch would fight back and force a second set tiebreak, to which UNM overcame and clinched the singles point with a final score of 6-1, 7-6.
At number two singles, Gbrac was defeated by Vo with a score of 6-0, 6-4.
At number three singles, Eggleston took on Vosburgh falling in a close second set with a final score of 6-2, 7-5.
At the number four spot, Khan fell to Basil with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
At the number five court, Kuuttila was defeated by LaLone with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
At the number six position, Katie Wookey fell to Sammie Watson with a score of 6-2, 6-2.
“Today was a disappointing match,” Head Coach Erica Perkins Jasper said. “We really came out unprepared in the doubles and Boise State completely took advantage of it. Our singles performance was better; we regrouped well but it was too little too late. Misa Bezdickova played another solid match at #1 for us--she is really doing a great job leading by example. Credit goes to Boise State for not giving us any breathing room today.”
The Lobos are now 4-6 overall and will play against Eastern Washington tomorrow at 10 a.m. MT.
