Lobos Fall to #55 San Diego State 7-0

April 6, 2013

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – The Lobos hit a rough patch against #55 San Diego State on the road falling 7-0.  The Lobos will stay in California one more day to play against #71 UNLV on neutral ground.

The day started off in favor of the Aztecs as they swiftly took the doubles point. They gained some momentum after winning number three 8-1 and then clinched it at the second court with a score of 8-5.

With the doubles point in the Aztecs’ hands, the Lobos looked to singles to shake things up.

At number five singles, Laura Richardson fell in the first set 6-1 but almost had the edge over her opponent Tamitha Nguyen. The two ended up in a second set tiebreak but it was there Nguyen stepped up her game to win the match 6-1, 7-6 (7-0).

San Diego State did not budge as they took all six points in singles to finish the match 7-0 against UNM.

“Congratulations to San Diego State on a well-played match,” Head Coach Erica Perkins Jasper said. “We had a few chances both in singles and doubles but they came out and were a little better on the big points. I think it was a good learning experience for our players and hopefully we can play a little more disciplined and determined tomorrow against a very talented UNLV team.”

The Lobos are now 0-2 in conference play and are 6-9 overall as they head into tomorrow’s match against #71 UNLV, which is set to take place at 11 a.m. MT.
