FORT COLLINS, COLO. - The Colorado State women’s tennis team lost a 6-1 decision to conference rival Boise State, Friday in Colorado Springs.

“I think that what happened today is kind of the same thing that has happened the last couple of weeks, and that is that we were competitive, but not competitive enough to win,” said head coach Jon Messick. “I think that we are improving, and that is important to notice.”

The Rams lost the critical doubles point, by losing all three sets. Natalie Heffron and Adriana Wojakowska were edged by Sandy Vo and Morgan Basil at the No. 2 position to give the Broncos the doubles point.

In singles, the Broncos won five out of the possible six singles matches to clinch the overall match.

One bright spot for the Rams was that Abby Stevens continued her strong play at the No. 1 position defeating the Broncos’ Marlena Pietzuch  7-6(6), 7-5. This is Stevens’ first dual victory at the No. 1 singles position.

“I think that is the best that I have seen Abby play all year long, and it is special that it happened at the No. 1 position,” said Messick. “She was relentless, and she gave Marlena Pietzuch all that she could handle.”

The Rams will look to capture a victory tomorrow when they take on another conference foe, New Mexico Sunday, April 13, at 12 p.m., in Colorado Springs.
