Snow Joke: UNLV Moves Indoors For CSU Win
April 19, 2013
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (UNLVRebels.com) - Despite moving indoors because of snow on the ground, the 61st-ranked UNLV women's tennis team won its fifth straight match, 4-1 over Colorado State, Friday night at the Miramount Lifestyle Fitness Center.
The Lady Rebels improved to 15-6 overall and 5-1 in Mountain West play while the Rams fell to 3-15 and 0-8 in the league. Because of the rescheduling forced by the wintry weather, the match was stopped when a team reached four points.
UNLV started the evening by taking the two completed doubles matches to earn a 1-0 lead. Lucia Batta and Nives Pavlovic won 8-1 over Kaley Schultz and Kendall Heitzner at the top position while Aleksandra Josifoska and Janine Erasmus clinched it, 8-5, over Natalie Heffron and Adriana Wojakowska at the second spot.
In singles, Batta, ranked 82nd in the nation, stayed undefeated in dual matches this season and raised her overall junior record to 30-5 with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Heffron at No. 2. Pavlovic, a senior, won by the same score over Schultz at No. 3. Freshman Iren Kotseva ended it with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Maddie Buxton on court six.
UNLV will next take on Wyoming on Saturday in Fort Collins at a time to be determined.
