The San Diego State women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision to Cal State Northridge on Saturday at Aztec Tennis Center. With the loss, the Scarlet and Black fall to 10-13 on the season, while the Matadors improve to 12-8.

SDSU fell behind early when the Aztecs lost the doubles point. CSUN won matches at Nos. 3 and 1 to clinch the point before San Diego State's Julia Wais and Alicia Aguilar salvaged doubles with their 9-8 victory over Nigora Sirojddinova and Anna Yang at No. 2.

The Aztecs, however, stormed back in singles. Aguilar put together an impressive 6-2, 6-0 showing in her match against Sabrina Man-Song-Hing at No. 4, which tied the score at 1-1. The win was Aguilar's second straight in singles.

San Diego State took the lead shortly thereafter when Kristin Buth cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Lorraine Cheung at No. 6. The Aztecs padded their lead and moved ahead, 3-1, when Sierra Ellison defeated Maria Pistalu in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 5.

SDSU looked poised to end the regular season on a high note as its top three players all won their respective first sets. CSUN, however, battled and forced a third set in all three matches.

At No. 3, Laura Antonana Iriarte was a 6-2 first-set winner in her contest with Anna Yang. Unfortunately for the Aztec sophomore, Yang answered resoundingly in the second and third sets to record the 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 win.

Even with the loss at No. 3, SDSU still owned a 3-2 advantage with two matches in progress. At No. 1, Wais cruised to a 6-1 win over Jennifer Sher in the first set. Sher, like Yang, responded and gutted out a 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 decision, which tied the match at 3-3.

Then at No. 2, Emma Cioffi blanked Sirojddinova in the first set, 6-0. But the Matador bounced back with a 7-5 win in the second set before emerging with a 6-1 victory in the decisive third to complete the comeback for the visitors.

The Aztecs return to action on Thursday, April 26, when they play host to the Mountain West Championship. SDSU's quarterfinal opponent will be announced at a later date.
