Lobos Complete Final Day at NMSU Fall Invitational

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – As the final day of the NMSU Fall Invitational draws to a close, the Lobos can come back home with more experience and the knowledge that they will be better prepared for their opponents when the spring season comes around.

The junior and senior duo of Nikolina Grbac and Kristin Eggleston was cut short in the semifinals as the two fell to Abilene Christian’s Hermsdorf/Mongin with a score of 8-2.

The results from yesterday’s and today’s consolation draw were not meant for a distinct winner, but rather for the players to gain more experience and to obtain better knowledge of their future opponents.

The results from Saturday’s and Sunday’s consolation matches are as follows:

Katie Wookey finished 2-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles with teammate Sarah Mahboob Khan.

Maria Sablina finished 1-1 in singles and 1-0 in doubles.

Sarah Mahboob Khan finished 0-2 in singles and 1-0 in doubles with teammate Katie Wookey.

Nikolina Grbac finished 2-0 in singles.

Kristin Eggleston finished 0-2 in singles.

Michaela Oldani finished 0-2 in singles and 2-0 in doubles with teammate Laura Richardson.

Laura Richardson finished 1-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles with teammate Michaela Oldani.

“I think we learned a lot this weekend about what it going to take to compete at a high level day in and day out,” Head Coach Erica Perkins Jasper said. “We had a number of outstanding individual efforts especially Laura Richardson, who stepped up and had an outstanding tournament going 4-1 in singles on the weekend. We are looking forward to getting back to Albuquerque and putting the work in.”

On another note, Michaela Bezdickova fell in the qualifying round of the Coleman Vision Tennis Championships to #535 in the world Caitlin Whoriskey 6-0, 6-2.
