Bezdickova Cut Off Two Win Streak at the ITA Regional Championships

Oct. 13, 2012

LAS VEGAS, NEV. – Junior Michaela Bezdickova’s run at the ITA Regional Championships was cut off as Boise State’s Sandy Vo defeated the talented Olomouc, Czech Republic native in a close three set match in the round of 16 singles.

The two battled it out with both players in tight contest as neither one of them wanted to lose. The first set was a key example of that competitiveness as a tiebreak was forced to decide who would win with Bezdickova coming out on top 7-6.

The second set had the Lobo junior gaining four games off of Vo, but Vo got the better of her winning the set 6-4.

It all came down to the third set to decide the winner. The two have been neck and neck this entire match and if one thought the third set would be any different, that assumption would be proven wrong. Bezdickova kept hope alive by gaining another four games off of her opponent, but Vo shut her down to claim the set and the match 6-7, 6-4, 6-4.

This match was not all for naught for the Lobo.

“The match showed me areas of my game that I need to work on,” Bezdickova said. “I am excited to come back to the practice court and to learn how to be more aggressive out there on the court.”

Bezdickova will have a little more time and a home court advantage the next time she has to play since the team’s next tournament will be at home as the UNM women’s tennis team will host the UNM Fall Invite on Nov. 2-4.
