McQueen Advances to Round of 32 Northwest Regionals

FRESNO, Calif. --- The Fresno State women's tennis team kicked off the ITA Northwest Regional Championships on Friday in Stanford, Calif. Senior Melissa McQueen highlighted the day by winning her opening two singles matches.

McQueen cruised through both of her matches giving up only seven games in four sets. In the opening round, she topped Ryann Warner 6-1, 6-3. The senior then came back later in the day to defeat Siobhan Ryan 6-0, 6-3.

McQueen is set to face the tournament's second seed and No. 5 Zsofia Susanyi of Cal at 10 a.m. in the round of 32 Saturday.

Fresno State's Bianca Modoc and Anne Susdorf both dropped their opening matches, but will continue play in the consolation bracket on Saturday. Modoc will have a rematch against Marina K. Nikolic at 3 p.m. and Susdorf will take on Sacramento State's Saskia Angerer.

In doubles, the senior duo of McQueen and Modoc fell to USF's Edwards and Yates 8-3. The pair will face Santa Clara's Skaras and Wolny at 4 p.m. in the consolation bracket Saturday.
