Cecil and Dake Win Top Doubles Flight at Panther Invitational

Seniors Melissa Cecil and Hannah Dake captured their second doubles title of the fall season Saturday at the Florida International End of Fall Invitational in Miami, Fla. Cecil and Dake, who also won the top doubles flight at the season-opening Gopher Invitational, defeated teammates Christine Molina and Natasha Rizvi, 8-3, in the finals of the top doubles flight Saturday.
Cecil and Dake advanced to the finals with an exciting 9-8 victory over Margarita Sadovnikova and Marta Burek of Youngstown State Saturday morning in the semifinals. Meanwhile, Molina and Rizvi won their semifinal match, 8-3, over Paola Rodriguez and Courtney Ernest of Ball State.
In the #2 doubles draw, sophomore Tiffany Tran and freshman Mary Meyers lost in the finals to Giuletta Boha and Nina Djordjevic, 8-4. Junior Anastasia Hueffner and sophomore Marcelli Magday fell in the semis to Boha and Djordjevic, 8-6.
In singles play, Molina and Dake will play for third place in the #1 and #2 draw, respectively, on Sunday, while Rizvi advanced to the finals of the #3 draw with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Bethany Moore of Ball State in the semis. Meyers and Magday will play in the finals of the #4 draw after each won in straight sets in the semis.
"Our doubles continues to improve and look strong," said Air Force head coach Kim Gidley. "I was especially impressed with our discipline and fight in all four of our teams. Hannah and Melissa have made the finals of three of our four tournaments this fall and earned their second title."
