Mountain West Announces Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Air Force senior Lance Wilhelm has been named the Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week, while Nevada junior Michelle Okhremchuk has been selected as the MW Women's Tennis Player of the Week.

Wilhelm, a native of Gig Harbor, Wash., went a combined 3-1 last week as the Falcons lost a Conference match to Boise State 5-2 on Jan. 19, and defeated Montana 4-3 on Jan. 20. Wilhelm won both of his No. 1 singles matches; 7-5, 6-3 over No. 28 Andrew Bettles of Boise State and 7-6, 6-1 over Andrew Warren of Montana. Wilhelm and his doubles partner, Grant Taylor, defeated Montana's Andrew Warren and Ethan Vaughn, 8-4. Warren and Vaughn were ranked eighth in the Mountain Region. Wilhelm and Taylor lost to Garrett Patton and Scott Sears of Boise State, 8-2.

Okhremchuk, from Doneck, Ukraine, won both of her No. 1 singles matches at the Winter Beach Tennis Invitational in Long Beach, Calif. She topped Michaela Bezdickova of New Mexico (ranked No. 74) in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Okhremchuk also defeated Julyette Steur of Colorado, 6-2, 6-1. Okhremchuk and doubles partner Emma Verberne won all three of their No. 1 doubles matches. They defeated New Mexico's Bezdickova and Laura Richardson, 8-0; Colorado's Steur and Winde Janssens, 8-4 and Long Beach State's Ebba Unden and Karolina Rozenberg, 8-4.
