SAN DIEGO - San Diego State women's tennis junior Julia Wais has been named Mountain West Co-Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday afternoon. Wais shares her first career award with UNLV's Lucia Batta.

Wais, hailing from Goeppingen, Germany, went a combined 6-0 last week as No. 53 San Diego State posted a 2-1 record against No. 26 Pepperdine (L, 3-4), UC Riverside (W, 7-0) and Cal State Fullerton (W, 7-0).

In a narrow 4-3 loss at Pepperdine, Wais and teammate Alicia Aguilar clinched the doubles point for the Aztecs with their 9-8 (4) victory over the tandem of Arianna Colffer and Ali Walters at the No. 2 doubles position, before Wais posted a straight-sets 6-3, 6-2 win over 72nd-ranked Alejandra Granillo at the top of the singles lineup.

Three days later, Wais continued her perfect play with two more doubles and singles wins. Teamed with Aguilar, the Aztec duo clinched the doubles point when they downed UC Riverside's Natalie McKay and Kat Saltarelli at No. 2, 8-3. In singles competition, Wais provided SDSU with its third team point with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 1 over Jamie Raney. After a brief mid-day break, Wais and Aguilar picked up an 8-2 decision over Cal State Fullerton's Kalika Slevcove and Monica Rodriguez. Then in singles, Wais was the first off the court as she knocked off Tiffany Mai, 6-3, 6-2, at the top spot.
