Falcons to Face Gonzaga and Oregon This Weekend

The Air Force women’s tennis team travels to Eugene. Ore., for a couple of matches this weekend. The Falcons will face Gonzaga at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2 and the University of Oregon at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3.
AIR FORCE HEAD COACH Kim Gidley
Air Force head coach Kim Gidley is in her 15th season at the helm of Air Force’s women’s tennis program. The first civilian head coach in the history of the program, Gidley became the winningest coach in the history of the program in 2003 with her 76th victory. She recorded her 100th career victory during the 2005-06 season and currently has a 188-195 career record.
The Falcons posted their first-ever victory over in-state rival Colorado on Sunday at the Academy, defeating the Buffaloes in dramatic fashion, 4-3. The Falcons took a 1-0 lead with wins at No. 1 and 2 doubles, then sophomore Natasha Rizvi completed her perfect weekend and gave Air Force a 2-0 lead with an impressive 6-3, 6-1 victory over Tenorio at the No. 4 singles spot. After CU evened the match at 2-all, senior Melissa Cecil won the No. 5 match 6-2, 6-0 to give Air Force a 3-2 lead, then fellow senior Hannah Dake clinched the match by winning the most exciting singles match of the day at the No. 2 spot. After winning the first set 6-4 against Dhany Quevado, Dake dropped the second set 6-3 and the third set went the distance with Dake winning the tiebreaker, 7-5.
Air Force also took care of the University of Louisiana, 6-1, on Saturday and is now 4-0 for the first time since the 1999-2000 season.
Air Force is idle for a week before travelling to Texas to face SMU (Feb. 16) and UT-Arlington (Feb. 17).
