Feb. 9, 2012

SAN DIEGO - The No. 54 San Diego State women's tennis team returns to action on Saturday when it faces No. 33 Arizona on the road, before returning home on Monday to play host to Hawai'i at Aztec Tennis Center. The match with Arizona is set for a 10 a.m. MT start, while the Hawai'i showdown is set to begin at 2 p.m. PT.

SDSU is in search of win No. 3 after splitting its first four matches of the season. The Aztecs dropped a narrow, 4-3, decision at No. 26 Pepperdine before defeating UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton by 7-0 scores at home. In its last outing, San Diego State was on the short end of a 6-1 score at No. 7 California back on Feb. 1.

In the loss at Cal, Roxanne Ellison picked up the lone point for San Diego State after downing Stephany Chang at No. 5, 7-6(6), 2-6, 1-0(7). Ellison takes a three-match singles winning streak into Tucson and is 3-1 on the season.

Julia Wais, last week's Mountain West co-player of the week, is also 3-1 in singles with all four decisions coming at the No. 1 position. Wais and doubles partner Alicia Aguilar also sport a 3-1 record while playing together at the No. 2 spot.

SDSU's other doubles tandems have performed well as Roxanne Ellison and Sierra Ellison are 2-2 at No. 1, and Laura Antonana Iriarte and Emma Cioffi boast a 3-1 record while competing at No. 3.

Arizona, meanwhile, comes into the match with a 2-2 record and recently leveled its record after defeating San Diego, 4-3, this past Saturday. The Wildcats lost the doubles point, but rallied in singles to record the win.

Hawai'i is in the midst of a four-game road trip through the state of California. On Wednesday, the Rainbow Wahine defeated LMU, 4-3, in Los Angeles. Prior to its arrival on Montezuma Mesa, UH will play at No. 56 UC Irvine on Thursday before playing at Fresno State on Saturday.
