COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --- For the first time this season, the Fresno State women's tennis team collected a weekly award from the Mountain West conference. Freshman Rana Sherif Ahmed was named the MW Female Tennis of the Week for her performances a week ago.

Ahmed, from Cairo, Egypt, went a perfect 4-0 over the weekend as the No. 56 Bulldogs downed San Francisco, 6-1, on Feb. 9 and Santa Clara, 4-3, on Feb. 10. Ahmed teamed with senior Melissa McQueen at No. 2 doubles and the duo won both matches; 8-2 over San Francisco's Yurie Hashiquchi and Milica Hadzi-Tanovic, and 8-4 versus Santa Clara's Maggie McGeorge and Kelly Lamble. In No. 2 singles play, she recorded her first career dual match victory as she set down Sofia Holmberg of San Francisco in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8). Ahmed's 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory over Lamble clinched the deciding point in Fresno State's 4-3 win against Santa Clara.
