TCU's Mastromarino Named MW Player of the Week

Feb. 22, 2012

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – TCU senior Gaby Mastromarino is the Mountain West Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.

Last Sunday, Mastromarino helped No. 37 TCU (4-2) snap a two-match skid on the road at 32nd-ranked Oklahoma. She claimed wins at No. 3 doubles with freshman Simona Parajova and at No. 4 singles.

In doubles, Mastromarino and Parajova were one of two TCU tandems to claim victory, allowing the Frogs to claim the crucial doubles to open the match. The Frog duo picked up an 8-0 decision at the expense of Abbi Melrose and Whitney Wofford.

The Jupiter, Fla., native then went right to work in singles and dismissed Melrose, 6-1, 6-3 to put TCU ahead 2-0 on the scoreboard. The win ran Mastromarino’s spring ledger to 4-1 in singles.

This week’s honor is the second weekly conference award in Mastromarino’s TCU career. She was also named MW Player of the Week after she helped TCU win the 2010 Mountain West Tennis Championship.
