No. 52 Women's Tennis Heads to Seattle for Two Matches
Feb. 22, 2012
SAN DIEGO - The 52nd-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team will head to the Pacific Northwest for a pair of matches beginning Friday. The Aztecs will take on No. 29 Washington on Friday at 1:30 p.m. PT, before facing No. 34 Saint Mary's on Saturday at noon PT. Both matches will be contested at Nordstrom Tennis Center on the Washington campus.
SDSU is looking to snap a four-match losing streak, the last two of which have occurred at Aztec Tennis Center. San Diego State (2-5) caught a bad break on Feb. 13, against Hawai'i when it won the doubles point and had rain wash away singles action.
After the contest vs. the Rainbow Wahine, the Aztecs won the doubles point in their match with No. 58 UC Irvine, but fell short in singles en route to a 5-2 defeat. Then on Tuesday vs. No. 72 LSU, San Diego State started off on the right foot once again by winning the doubles point, but was swept in singles as it fell, 6-1.
The Huskies enter Friday's match with a 5-2 record, but are coming off a 4-3 home loss to No. 31 Texas A&M. Saint Mary's, meanwhile, is 3-3 and is fresh off a 6-1 loss to top-ranked Stanford.
This weekend, four nationally ranked singles players will be on hand starting with No. 117 Julia Wais. The Aztec junior is 7-6 on the season (3-4 dual) and has competed at the top position all season long. Washington boasts No. 18 Denise Dy, while Saint Mary's travels north with the 83rd- and 106th-ranked players in Jenny Jullien and Catherine Isip, respectively.
