Frogs Renew Rivalry With No. 28 Texas A&M

Feb. 25, 2012

FORT WORTH – TCU’s women’s tennis team returns to action Monday with a visit from 28th-ranked Texas A&M to the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. First serve is set for 5:30 p.m.

No. 37-ranked TCU (4-2) returned to its winning ways Feb. 19 when it took down No. 35 Oklahoma, 4-3, to snap a two-match skid. The Aggies are 5-1 this season and coming off a 5-2 win over Rice last Friday.

TCU leads the all-time series with Texas A&M, 22-19, but has dropped the last two to its in-state rival and former Southwest Conference foe. The Aggies were 6-1 winners last year in College Station. The Frogs are 2-2 this season against in-state opponents.

Senior Gaby Mastromarino has been strong for the Frogs in singles play this spring, tallying a 4-1 record. For doubles, Mastromarino has played only twice but is 2-0 with freshman Simona Parajova. Mastromarino is the current Mountain West Player of the Week.

Federica Denti, who has missed the last two matches due to injury, is 3-1 this spring in singles, while she and Kelsey Sundaram hold a 3-2 mark in doubles play. Olivia Smith has settled into the No. 1 role for the Frogs in singles and is 3-1.

Two Aggies are featured in the latest Campbell’s/ITA College Tennis Rankings with Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar holding the No. 14 spot. She is 5-0 this spring. Sun Wen, at 3-2 this spring, is No. 86.

Free pizza will be served to all fans in attendance at Monday’s match with the Aggies.
