Falcons Play Three This Weekend

The Air Force women's tennis team plays three matches this weekend. The Falcons host Montana State on Friday, March 8 at 10 a.m., then travels to Fort Collins for the first Mountain West match of the season against Colorado State on Saturday, March 9 at 5 p.m., and closes out the weekend against Northern Colorado at home on Sunday, March 10 at 4 p.m. The Falcons are 8-4 this season.
AIR FORCE HEAD COACH Kim Gidley
Air Force head coach Kim Gidley is in her 15th season at the helm of Air Force's women's tennis program. The first civilian head coach in the history of the program, Gidley became the winningest coach in the history of the program in 2003 with her 76th victory. She recorded her 100th career victory during the 2005-06 season and currently has a 192-199 career record.
LAST TIME OUT
The Falcons won their fourth consecutive match last Friday, defeating the University of Houston, 7-0, at the Academy.
The Falcons opened the match by winning the doubles point with victories at the top two spots. Senior Christine Molina and sophomore Natasha Rizvi got things rolling with an 8-0 victory over Elena Kordolaimi and Jo Garvey at the No. 2 spot. Seniors Melissa Cecil and Hannah Dake clinched the point with an 8-4 triumph over Rocio Fernandez and Charlotte Philllips at the No. 1 position.
In singles action, the Falcons swept all six matches, four of them in straight sets. Dake got things rolling with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Fernandez at the No. 3 position, followed by Rizvi defeating Phillips, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4. Sophomore Tiffany Tran (No. 2) and Cecil (No. 5) also won in straight sets, while Molina and freshman Mary Meyers each won in three sets.
GREAT PERCENTAGES IN SINGLES AND DOUBLES
The Falcons have won 65.3 percent of their singles matches (47-25) and 62.9 percent of their doubles matches (22-13) this spring in dual matches.
Air Force hosts Rhode Island on Tuesday, March 12 at 3 p.m.
