March 6, 2012

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team returns to action this Friday when it plays host to UC Santa Barbara. First serve at Aztec Tennis Center is set for 2 p.m. PT.

SDSU (3-8) recently snapped a seven-match losing streak on Sunday when it defeated Loyola Marymount, 5-2, at home. The Aztecs won the doubles point for the fifth time in their last six outings before going on to win four of six singles matches.

Roxanne Ellison and Sierra Ellison, along with Julia Wais and Alicia Aguilar, were winners in doubles. In singles, Wais, Sierra Ellison, Emma Cioffi and Kristin Buth emerged with victories.

UCSB (4-9), meanwhile, is coming off at 4-3 loss at UC Irvine on Saturday and has lost its last two.

The Aztecs have faced the Gauchos 26 times in the history of the series and have captured the decision 24 times. Friday's match, however, will be the first between the schools since April 8, 1999, which resulted in a 9-0 San Diego State win.

Following its match with UCSB, SDSU will play host to Louisville on Thursday, March 15, at 2 p.m. PT. All home contests at Aztec Tennis Center are free and open to the public.
