Denti Tabbed Mountain West Tennis Player of the Week
March 7, 2012
COLORADO SPRINGS – TCU junior Federica Denti has been named the Mountain West Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
The honor is the first MW weekly recognition of Denti’s TCU career. It marks the second time this season a Horned Frog has been the recipient of the award. Senior Gaby Mastromarino picked up the honor on Feb. 22.
Denti returned from a two-match hiatus due to injury to win all three of her singles matches last week, as the Frogs tallied a 2-1 record in those matches. During that stretch, she and Kelsey Sundaram went 2-1 in doubles.
For singles, the Bellano, Italy, native won two of her three matches in straight sets. Against Texas A&M on Feb. 27, Denti was a 7-6 (1), 3-6, 1-0 (3) winner to score TCU’s lone point against the Aggies.
She helped TCU to wins against UT Arlington and Princeton later in the week with wins of 6-1, 6-3 and 6-0, 6-3, respectively. Denti is a team best 6-1 in singles this spring.
In doubles, Denti and Sundaram dropped their lone match of the week in a tiebreaker against A&M. In the matches with UT Arlington and Princeton, the TCU duo rolled to 8-3 and 8-6 wins, respectively.
No. 33 TCU returns to action Sunday when Marquette visits the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. First serve is set for noon.
