TCU Closes Home Stand With Noon Visit From Marquette

March 10, 2012

FORT WORTH -- TCU's women's tennis team plays the final match of a four-match home stand Sunday when it plays to Marquette at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. First serve is set for noon.

The Horned Frogs (6-3) are winners of two in a row and are ranked a season-high No. 33 in this week's Campbell's/ITA College Tennis Rankings. Marquette is 8-3 and coming off a 6-1 loss to Indiana in its last match. TCU is 5-2 this season on its home courts, including a 2-1 mark on the current run of home matches.

Sunday's matchup is the third all-time between TCU and the Golden Eagles, with the Frogs claiming 4-1 wins in 2002 and 2003. It also marks the fourth time this season the Frogs have faced a fellow private institution. The Frogs are 2-1 in those matches.

Junior Federica Denti has led the way for the Frogs in singles play this spring. She is 6-1 and currently riding a three-match winning streak, which earned her Mountain West Tennis Player of the Week honors for the past week.

As of late, TCU has also seen strong contributions from its freshmen in the top half of the lineup. Stefanie Tan, at No. 1, and Simona Parajova, at No. 3, have each won back-to-back matches in singles action.

In doubles play, senior Gaby Mastromarino and Parajova have been red hot since becoming doubles partners in a 4-3 TCU win at Oklahoma on Feb. 19. The tandem is 5-0, helping the Frogs to a 4-1 record over that stretch.

After Sunday's match, TCU hits the road for four-straight matches during the university's spring break period. The Frogs travel south to face No. 17 Alabama and No. 61 Florida State, before opening its final season of MW action against Air Force and Boise State.
