Mountain West Announces Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

UNLV's Rene Ruegamer has been selected as the Mountain West Men’s Player of the Week, while San Diego State’s Julia Wais has been named the MW Women's Tennis Player of the Week.

Hailing from Wurzburg, Germany, Ruegamer went a combined 5-0 in singles and doubles play as he led UNLV to a trio of dual wins last week. Playing at the top of the singles lineup, he swept Dalton Albertin of No. 74 Ball State, 6-1, 6-4, on Thursday, before moving past Sven Posluny of Utah State, 6-2, 6-0, on Friday. Ruegamer finished off his undefeated week in singles action by downing NAU’s Robin Pezzutto, 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (14-12) on Sunday. Ruegamer also went 2-0 in doubles play at the No. 3 position while teaming with Charlie Alvarado.

Wais, a product of Goeppingen, Germany, helped San Diego State win its second straight match as the Aztecs secured a 6-1 victory over UC Santa Barbara last Friday in San Diego, Calif. Wais won her doubles and singles matches and clinched the doubles point and overall match for SDSU. Teamed with Alicia Aguilar at the No. 2 doubles position, the duo downed the UC Santa Barbara tandem of Erica Cano and Sofia Novak, 8-6, to secure the early lead for the Aztecs. Then in singles with SDSU ahead, 3-0, Wais capture the win at the top of the lineup over Natalia Lozano, 6-3, 6-3.
