FORT COLLINS, Colo.—The Colorado State women’s tennis team will travel to California this weekend to compete in the first matches of its Mountain West schedule.  The first match will be Saturday and continue on Sunday at the Aztec Tennis Center in San Diego.

CSU (3-8, 0-0 Mountain West) will face San Diego State (4-9) at 1 p.m. MT on Saturday. The Aztecs had a rough start to the season, but have won two out of their last three matches.

Then on Sunday, the Rams will go up against No. 67 UNLV (9-5) at 11 a.m. MT. The Rebels are coming off a fresh win against Tennessee Wednesday.

“Every match we play is going to have an effect on our seed at the conference tournament and our ability to progress in the conference tournament,” said Head Coach Jon Messick. “Right now we’re undefeated in the conference, so we look at that as a clean slate.”

Freshman Natalie Heffron has consistently led the Rams this season. Messick is anxious to see how she will do in the conference.

“Natalie Heffron has continued to do well. She went 3-0 on her last trip,” said Messick. “She’s 17-5 right now, for the season, so I’d like to see what she’ll do to the conference competition.”

Although both teams defeated CSU last year, the Rams will look for a strong start in the conference.

“We’ve got two tough opponents right off the bat, San Diego State and UNLV, so we’ve got our work cut out for us,” said Messick.
