FORT WORTH – Winners of two straight, the TCU women’s tennis team is back on the courts Wednesday when it hosts SMU for a 5:30 p.m., tilt at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The 45th-ranked Horned Frogs (9-5) play one of their final two nonconference matches of the year and their seventh against the state of Texas. TCU is 3-3 this spring against opponents from the Lone Star State. SMU is 1-11 and has dropped five-straight matches.
Wednesday’s meeting is the 47th all-time between the two schools from opposite sides of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. TCU holds a 26-20 all-time advantage, but SMU has won three-straight in the series. TCU is 3-1 against fellow private institutions this season.
TCU has seen solid production from the top two players in its singles lineup as of late with freshmen Stefanie Tan and Simona Parajova holding down the Nos. 1 and 2 spots, respectively. Tan has won seven-straight matches in singles and holds a 10-3 mark this spring. Parajova is 8-4 and on a three-match winning streak.
On the doubles courts, senior Gaby Mastromarino and Parajova have an 8-1 record as partners this spring and have won three matches in a row. Federica Denti and Kelsey Sundaram have been solid as well for TCU, tallying a 7-4 mark.
Edyta Cieplucha has been the top contributor for the Mustangs this season, racking up a 9-3 mark this spring from her No. 1 singles position.
