Frogs Travel to Las Vegas For Key Conference Weekend

FORT WORTH – TCU’s 45th-ranked women’s tennis team travels to Las Vegas this weekend for two crucial Mountain West matchups with San Diego State and UNLV at the Rebels’ Frank and Vicki Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Horned Frogs (10-5, 2-0 Mountain West) are winners of three-straight matches and are tied atop the league standings with San Diego State (6-9, 2-0). The two squads square off on Saturday. TCU faces No. 51 UNLV (10-6, 1-1) on Sunday. Both matches are set to begin at 12 p.m., CST.
TCU holds a 5-3 advantage over the Aztecs in the all-time series, but San Diego State claimed a 5-2 win a year ago. In the all-time series with the Rebels, TCU trails 6-7. UNLV won the regular season meeting a year ago on its way to the regular season MW title, only to be eliminated by TCU from the MW Women’s Tennis Championship.
Over its last three matches, TCU has gotten solid production from its entire singles lineup. Freshman Stefanie Tan, ranked No. 67 in the nation, has won eight-straight matches from her No. 1 singles position.
Another freshman, Simona Parajova has picked up four-straight wins on the No. 2 court. At No. 3, junior Olivia Smith has won three in a row, while junior Federica Denti is a winner of three-straight matches at No. 4 singles.
From the doubles courts, senior Gaby Mastromarino and Parajova are 9-1 at the No. 3 position, including four-straight triumphs. Sophomore Millie Nichols and Smith, ranked No. 79 in the nation, are 5-2 this spring, while Denti and junior Kelsey Sundaram hold an 8-4 mark.
Sunday’s matchup will feature the Mountain West’s two highest-ranked singles players. Lucia Batta of UNLV is ranked No. 57 in the ITA singles rankings and has a 15-2 record this spring. Tan, at No. 67, has beaten No. 23 Mary Macfarlane of Alabama and No. 52 Edyta Cieplucha of SMU in two of her last five matches.
