Frogs Hit Road For Two Mountain West Matches

FORT WORTH – The 41st-ranked TCU women’s tennis team closes the road portion of its regular season schedule this weekend with matches at Wyoming and Colorado State.

The Horned Frogs sit atop the Mountain West standings at 4-0 in the league and 12-5 overall. With two wins this weekend, TCU will clinch at least a share of the regular season conference title and put itself in position for the No. 1 seed at the Mountain West Women’s Tennis Championship.

TCU takes on Wyoming at 11 a.m., CST on Saturday, before making the short trip to Colorado State for a 10:30 a.m., CST matchup. The Frogs are closing their second four-match road trip and have played just one match at home since March 11. TCU holds a 2-3 mark in true road matches and a 3-0 record on neutral courts.

Wyoming is 10-7 overall this season and 2-1 in the Mountain West and is ranked No. 59 in the Campbell’s/ITA College Tennis Rankings. Colorado State is 4-11 and 0-3. The Rams face New Mexico on Saturday before taking on the Frogs.

TCU features three players with unblemished singles records this against conference opponents, including Federica Denti who is 4-0 and has won five matches in a row overall. Gabi Barbosa is 3-0 against MW foes, while Gaby Mastromarino is 2-0.

Freshman Stefanie Tan is ranked No. 67 in the ITA singles rankings and holds TCU’s top mark in singles from the No. 1 singles position. She is 11-5 this spring, but is looking to snap a two-match skid.

In doubles play, TCU has won the doubles point in all four of its conference matches up to this point. Mastromarino and Simona Parajova are 11-1 this spring and 4-0 against MW opponents. No. 79-ranked Millie Nichols and Olivia Smith have a 6-3 record.

For the Cowgirls, Simona Synkova and Veronica Popovici are ranked as the nation’s No. 45 doubles tandem.
