April 18, 2013
RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada women's tennis team will wrap up its regular season on the road with two dual matches, one against New Mexico on Saturday and a showdown with Boise State on Sunday.
The Wolf Pack (9-6, 3-3 MW) will face off against the Lobos (7-12, 1-5 MW) and the Broncos (13-7, 4-2 MW) in the final two matches of the season. Nevada is hoping to end a two game losing skid, with losses to UNLV and Mountain West leader No. 48 San Diego State. After a win over Alicia Aguilar of San Diego, Emma Verberne now has a share of third place for most singles victories in a career, tied with Caroline Baily at 56 wins. Michelle Okhremchuk was 3-1 in her matches last weekend, playing from singles position one and teamed with Verberne in doubles. Senior Sophie Stevens and sophomore Juliette Legendre teamed together to earn two doubles wins.
"With the Mountain West Championships right around the corner, it is important for us to be playing well," head coach Guillaume Tonelli said. "These will be two tough matches to get us prepared and get us on our A-game before then."
The Lobos come into the matchup off a 7-0 defeat to Wyoming, and have dropped four of their past five matches. Expected to play from position one for the Lobos is Michela Bezdickova, who has notched a 14-5 record from there this season. In doubles, Bezdickova has teamed with Laura Richardson to record an 8-11 record from the first position. The match with New Mexico will begin at 1:30 p.m.
The Broncos have won their past three matches before the contest with Nevada, including coming off a 7-0 toppling of Air Force. Four Broncos players come in with double digit singles victories, including Megan LaLone, who holds a 13-5 record. Expected to play in position one is Marlena Pietzuch, who is 9-5 from that position this season. The team of Morgan Basil and Sandy Vo is the top doubles pair for the Broncos this season, with a 14-4 record from position two. The match with the Broncos will begin at 11 a.m.
