Falcons Wrap Up Regular Season This Weekend

The Air Force women’s tennis team heads to Fort Collins, Colo., this weekend to complete the regular season. The Falcons will play 41st-ranked San Diego State on Saturday, April 20 and 61st-ranked UNLV on Sunday, April 21, both at 10 a.m.
AIR FORCE HEAD COACH Kim Gidley
Air Force head coach Kim Gidley is in her 15th season at the helm of Air Force’s women’s tennis program. The first civilian head coach in the history of the program, Gidley became the winningest coach in the history of the program in 2003 with her 76th victory. She recorded her 100th career victory during the 2005-06 season and currently has a 197-203 career record.
LAST TIME OUT
Air Force split a pair of league matches at home last weekend. The Falcons (13-8, 2-4 MW) defeated New Mexico 4-3 on Friday, then fell to Boise State 7-0 on Sunday.
Fresno State won the doubles point by sweeping all three matches. Olga Kirpicheva and Aishwarya Agrawal won at No. 3, defeating sophomores Tiffany Tran and Marcelli Magday 8-1. Bianca Modoc and Sophie Watts clinched the point for the Bulldogs at No. 2 with an 8-4 victory over senior Christine Molina and sophomore Natasha Rizvi. Melissa McQueen and Rana Sherif Ahmed rounded out the sweep with an 8-3 victory at the top spot over seniors Melissa Cecil and Hannah Dake.
The Bulldogs kept the momentum in singles, winning all six contests. Ahmed and Molina battled in the final match at the No. 1 position, before Ahmed prevailed 6-4, 6-3, 1-0 (11-9).
Nevada won the doubles point by sweeping all three matches. The closest match was at the No. 2 position, where Sophie Stevens and Juliette Legendre beat Molina and Rizvi 8-6.
Rizvi produced Air Force’s lone singles victory by defeating Sheila Smiley, 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 4 spot. Nevada won the other five matches in straight sets.
Air Force hosts the 2013 Mountain West Tennis Championships next weekend at the Academy. The tournament begins on Thursday, April 25 and the finals will be played on Sunday, April 28.
