April 22, 2012
SAN DIEGO -
SDSU finished the MW campaign in three-way tie with UNLV and Wyoming for second place after all three squads ended with a 5-2 league record. The Lady Rebels, however, earned the No. 2 seed after they defeated the Aztecs in Las Vegas in the MW finale, 5-1. SDSU captured the No. 3 seed as a result of its 5-2 win over Wyoming in the second Mountain West match of the season.
TCU, the regular-season champion, is the top-seeded team in the field and received a bye into Saturday's semifinal round. The Horned Frogs will face the winner of No. 4 Wyoming-No. 5 Air Force. The Cowgirls and Falcons will meet on the court on Thursday morning at 10 a.m. PT. UNLV and seventh-seeded Colorado State will clash on Thursday at 2 p.m. PT.
Both semifinal rounds of the tournament are set for 2 p.m. PT on Saturday, April 28, with the final scheduled for a 2 p.m. PT start on Sunday, April 29.
Earlier this season, the Aztecs defeated UNM, 7-0, in a neutral-site match at Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas. San Diego State won all three doubles matches and won all six contests in straight-sets fashion back on April 1.
SDSU has won four straight in the series with New Mexico and will see the Lobos in the conference tournament for the first time since 2008.
