Aztecs Pick Up All-Mountain West Awards

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team had two singles players and one doubles team earn all-Mountain West honors, the league announce late Thursday in San Diego at its postseason banquet. Julia Wais and Laura Antonana Iriarte were singles honorees, while Roxanne Ellison and Sierra Ellison were recognized on the doubles side.

Wais, the Aztecs' top player in singles, finished the conference campaign with a 6-1 record and opened Mountain West action by winning her first six matches, all of which occurred at No. 1. The honor is the second of her career.

Antonana Iriarte is a first-time all-MW performer in singles and comes after posting a 4-3 record against conference competition. The sophomore won her only match at No. 2 and logged three victories at No. 3.

The Ellisons, mewanwhile, earned all-Mountain West doubles accolades for the third time while playing atop the lineup. The duo was 4-2 in league play and went 1-1 against nationally ranked MW foes.

All four Aztecs helped San Diego State to a second-place tie in the final Mountain West standings and were instrumental in third-seeded SDSU defeating sixth-seeded New Mexico in the quarterfinals at the MW Championship on Thursday. The Scarlet and Black is now set to face second-seeded UNLV on Saturday at Aztec Tennis Center at 2 p.m. PT.
