LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -

TOURNAMENT CENTRAL

The 57th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team is in Lincoln, Neb., preparing to take on No. 27 Tulsa in Friday's first round of the NCAA Championship.

The 2013 Mountain West Tournament Champion Lady Rebels (19-7 overall/6-2 MW) will face the Golden Hurricane (19-6) starting with doubles play at 9 am PT at the Vine Street Courts. A link to live scoring of the match is available at www.unlvrebels.com.

UNLV, which has won nine of its last 10 matches, captured its league's automatic bid and is one of two MW schools in the 64-team field along with San Diego State. Tulsa, which earned an at-large bid out of Conference USA, leads the all-time series between the programs 2-1. UNLV won the first meeting, 8-1, in 1989 in a neutral-site match while Tulsa posted 5-4 wins in Las Vegas in both 1999 and 2000.

Host Nebraska, ranked 16th, will play Wichita State in the other first-round match. The winners will face off Saturday at noon for a trip to the round of 16, which this year will be played at the University of Illinois' Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex.

This marks UNLV's sixth NCAA trip in the last seven years and 11th overall, but only the fourth that will take place outside the state of California. However, the last time the Rebels were sent east they upset VCU in the first round of the 2010 event in Chapel Hill, N.C., before later falling to host North Carolina.

"We are looking forward to getting started tomorrow," 14th-year UNLV head coach Kevin Cory said after arriving in the Cornhusker State. "We're in an environment we have never been in and we know we will have our hands full with a talented Tulsa team but I feel we are ready to face the challenge."
