Michaela Bezdickova To Play in Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. –Junior Michaela Bezdickova has been chosen to represent UNM in the singles prequalifying round of the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships. The tournament will take place at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
“This tournament is special for several reasons,” explained Dr. Fred Ho, Chair of the Riviera Tennis Committee. “It is fully supported by the Riviera Tennis Club members through direct cash contributions and donation of auction items. It is such a unique experience for the players, as they are housed at the homes of members from Beverly Hills to Malibu. Lastly, the field is the deepest of any national women’s collegiate tennis event.” And, as David Benjamin, ITA Executive Director, added: “The ITA/Riviera All-American Championships is a wonderful way to kick-off our fall season, and serves as a fantastic preview for the year ahead!”
Bezdickova had an impressive performance last season after she recorded an overall singles record of 21-9. In dual play, she posted a singles record of 13-7 at the number one spot. At the end of the season, she finished with a winning streak of four matches.
The Olomovc, Czech Republic native received many awards last year such as being named a Mountain West Scholar Athlete for 2011-12 and being named to the 2011-12 Capital One Academic All-District All-Large Teams. She also received the Academic All-Conference Award for spring 2012 and was named to the 2011-12 All-Mountain West Team for singles and doubles. This was her second time to be selected to the All-Mountain West Team for singles and her first time for doubles with partner Maria Sablina.
The prequalifying round will run through Sept. 29-30 at UCLA, the qualifying round through Oct. 2-3, and then the main draw through Oct. 4-7.
