Sept. 27, 2012

RENO, Nev. -- The University of Nevada women's tennis team will begin its tournament season with a trip to the Cal-Nike Invitational this weekend, competing from Friday-Sunday in Berkeley, Calif.

Two players, Michelle Okhremchuk and Emma Verberne, return to the Wolf Pack women's team after earning all-conference honors last season.

The duo was named second-team all-WAC in doubles competition. 6-1 in dual play and 3-1 in WAC matches, the duo closed the season on a six-match winning streak.

Okhremchuk’s 20 overall wins were enough to garner first-team singles honors for the second year in a row. She played out of the No. 1 position in 16 of Nevada’s 17 matches during the dual season. She was 10-6 in those matches.

Verberne was tabbed a second-team singles performer for the third consecutive year after an 18-13 overall record. Playing out of the No. 2 position for the majority of the season, she posted a 10-7 record in dual play.

In total, second-year head coach Guillaume Tonelli welcomes two newcomers onto a squad that will return five players from a season ago.

Nevada finished the 2012 season at 6-12 overall, falling to eventual WAC champion Hawai'i in the first round of the conference tournament in Las Cruces, N.M.
